On 22 March, during the prestigious annual international congress of the AICR (Amicale Internationale des Chefs de Réception) held in Athens, Joël Darfeuille was awarded the esteemed David Campbell Trophy, recognising the World’s Best Receptionist. This prestigious title highlights the outstanding journey of a graduate from the very first class of École Ferrières.
Currently working at the Fairmont Monte-Carlo, Joël triumphed over top international candidates following a demanding competition comprising four rounds: professional role-playing scenarios, a technical computer-based assessment (on software packages & CRM, including reservation management and performance indicator calculations), and a team-based challenge focused on enhancing the cross-selling of an establishment’s points of sale.
His global success confirms the growing presence of Ferrières within the international hospitality landscape and reflects the excellence of the training provided by the school since its inception.

Joël’s victory is no coincidence. It is the result of a comprehensive and disciplined preparation strategy. He undertook intensive technical training, real-life scenario practice, oral simulations, collaborative work across various hotel departments, and personal coaching to strengthen both his mental resilience and professional posture.
This deep commitment perfectly embodies the fundamental principles upheld by École Ferrières: excellence, rigour, humility, team spirit, and a genuine sense of hospitality. Through his professionalism and his ability to represent authentic hospitality, Joël now stands as one of the finest ambassadors of the Ferrières training model on the global stage.
This international recognition highlights the impact of the school’s educational approach, which seamlessly blends academic rigour, practical experience, and personal development.

Following this exceptional achievement, Joël will soon return to Ferrières to lead an exclusive Masterclass. During this session, he will share his journey, the steps of his preparation, the keys to his success, and insights into the challenges of such a high-level competition.
This privileged exchange will offer students a unique opportunity to draw inspiration from his real-life experience, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the skills required to excel as a receptionist in luxury hospitality. This initiative reflects Ferrières’ commitment to fostering strong connections between alumni and future graduates, encouraging mutual growth and learning.
This victory marks a new symbolic step for Ferrières: that of once again seeing a member of its first classes carry the school’s colours high on an international stage. Joël perfectly reflects the ambition that Ferrières has embraced since its foundation – to shape passionate professionals capable of excelling through their skills, attitude, and humanity in the most demanding environments.
This accolade is likely just one step in Joël’s promising career, as he aims to continue progressing within the world of luxury hospitality. His future looks bright, built upon the solid foundations of discipline, passion, and a Ferrières education rooted in excellence and innovation.
